Family day at Burghausen Castle on May 9th with a colorful program

The Bavarian Palace Administration opens this year's family days season and invites you to Burghausen Castle on Thursday, May 9, 2024. From 11 a.m. to 17 p.m., a colorful program of games, fun and excitement awaits young and old in one of the most impressive castle complexes in Europe. The family day is a joint effort by the Bavarian Castle Administration in collaboration with the State Castle Museum, the Burghausen City Museum and the House of Photography – Dr. Robert Gerlich Museum.

For our young visitors there is an entertaining children's program with exciting tours and hands-on activities. With an explorer's arch, children can explore the castle on their own and learn a lot about the history of the complex in a playful way. Medieval games provide entertainment and action. A real knight will be available to answer questions in the city museum in the afternoon. On exciting special tours, families immerse themselves in the castle's past and learn more about life in the Middle Ages. Many tours are suitable for children aged 6 and over and show “Secret Paths”, “Eating, Sleeping, Bathing – What do works of art tell us about life in the Middle Ages”, “On the trail of a changing of the guard – guided tour to the Powder Tower” and much more.

The Outer Castle Chapel, also known as Hedwig's Chapel, is open for visits from 13 p.m. to 14 p.m. with free admission. The ceremonial conclusion will be a concert in the wonderful ambience of the inner castle chapel of St. Elisabeth at 17 p.m. The “Capella laudate dominum”, an ensemble of the Herzogstadt Burghausen e. V., takes you back to a bygone era with the sounds of harps and violins. Admission to the concert is free.

The activities and special tours are included in the entrance fee to the respective museum. Due to the limited number of people, registration is required to take part in the special tours. You can find information about this at www.burg-burghausen.de

The Bavarian Palace Administration is looking forward to numerous visitors to the family day at Burghausen Castle! Further family days will take place this year in Coburg, Cadolzburg, Bayreuth, on the Rose Island, in Schleißheim, Neuburg and Ellingen.
