In Burghausen there are three elementary schools, one middle school, one junior high school and two high schools. The city of Burghausen bears material expenses for the elementary schools and the middle school. The city is financially responsible for these schools.
The elementary schools are the Hans-Kammerer and the Johannes-Hess elementary school, both of which are in Neustadt. The Hans-Stethaimer-School is located in the old town. In the school building, the Hans-Stethaimer School also houses a branch of the Pestalozzi School, a special education center in Neuötting. The branch office in Raitenhaslach also belongs to the Hans-Stethaimer-School.
The children are allocated to the various elementary schools by the school district of the Altötting school authority.
The secondary schools in Burghausen are the Franz-Xaver-Gruber-Middle School, the Maria-Ward-Realschule, the Aventinus- and the Kurfürst-Maximilian-Gymnasium.
