Banner Literature Live

Lyrical, articulate, classical and much more - all this is LITERATUR LIVE. The fine literature festival, which takes place every two years at different Burghausen venues, has long since developed into a crowd puller in the city's cultural offerings.

Since 1991, the festival has provided a stage for renowned authors as well as newcomers to the scene, actors, filmmakers, musicians and critics. The selected, cross-genre program gives visitors in and around Burghausen an insight into contemporary literary creativity.

Award-winning writers have been among the guests of LITERATUR LIVE since the very beginning: from Martin Walser, Peter Härtling, Urs Widmer and Christoph Ransmayr, to Josef Bierbichler, Axel Hacke, Nora Gomringer and Eva Menasse, to Bastian Sick and Michael Kumpfmüller , Friedrich Ani, Saša Stanišić, Sibylle Lewitscharoff, Doris Dörrie and Christoph Hein. In addition to many other greats, they have made Burghausen shine again and again in literary terms.

Initiated and curated by the former, long-time cultural consultant Markus Ballerstaller, LITERATUR LIVE has developed into a well-known event far beyond Burghausen's borders.

The city of Burghausen added an interesting facet to LITERATUR LIVE in 2020: it has been advertising a "Writer in Residence" program ever since. For this scholarship, a jury selects a writer who is allowed to live, research and work in Burghausen for several weeks. The texts that the author develops as part of the "Writer in Residence" program are then presented to the public at the LITERATURE LIVE Festival.
