The city of Burghausen has defined the following guiding principle as part of its sustainability concept for the field of science, business and work:

"As a business location, we support the development of a future-oriented, competitive, ecologically viable and socially responsible regional economic structure with the aim of transforming industry to climate neutrality. In addition, the city supports restaurateurs, trades and commerce, culture enthusiasts and service providers and is tackling urban planning measures for a lively inner city and further development of the university and training location.

The guiding principle gives rise to concrete goals and visions that Burghausen would like to implement by 2030 or 2035:

“The industrial companies in the ChemDelta have set their own climate goals and commit to the climate goals of the federal and state governments or want to achieve them faster. As a city, we want to provide the best possible support in this endeavor, including with the real laboratory.”

The city of Burghausen has defined six areas for the field of science, economy and work. These include:

  • Transformation of the chemical industry to climate neutrality
  • Further development of science location
  • Establishment of a start-up scene
  • Shopping town of Burghausen
  • Sustainable tourism in the city
  • Digitization of the city administration

'The city of Burghausen cooperates with local establishments, companies and institutions to achieve goals in the fields of science, business and work.

In order to realize the transformation of the chemical industry to climate neutrality and to use hydrogen in chemical production, the city of Burghausen has joined forces with local chemical companies, the Burghausen campus and the Altötting district office, among others. The transformation also includes the establishment of needs-based logistics for hydrogen and a decentralized hydrogen supply for the chemical industry in Burghausen.

The city intends to promote Burghausen as a science location, among other things, by building a technical center on the site of the Salzach Center. The Burghausen campus is introducing a teaching professorship for hydrogen technology and would like to further increase the number of students in Burghausen.

Under the leadership of the Burghausen Business Development Agency, the city is planning to establish a start-up scene in Burghausen.

The city also pays great attention to a sustainable infrastructure for its citizens: The shopping city of Burghausen should increase in value in the long term, with the site at the Salzach Center not only serving as a location for the technical center. Rather, the city would like to offer space for living, trade and commerce as well as for innovation through optimal use. The city is thus taking up a suggestion from the Burghausen Citizens' Council on Sustainability.

In addition, the city wants to redesign Marktler and Robert-Koch-Strasse by 2025 under the direction of the Burghausen building authority. There should be a caretaker for the old town. The city is thus pursuing the goal of having a permanent contact person who is not only a direct contact for business people in the old town, but also takes on all questions from the companies and answers them competently. The caretaker is closely linked to the city administration, so he is well informed and can provide initial information about possibilities, guidelines and requirements for projects in the old town.

The city of Burghausen is also pursuing ambitious goals in the area of sustainable tourism in the city: Burghauser Touristik is developing an online shopping guide for sustainable products and developing a seal for sustainable tourism.

Changes are also taking place in Burghausen Town Hall: Here, digitization management is implementing the Online Access Act by digitizing the city administration.

At the decision of the city council, the city is also introducing measures to further strengthen Burghausen as a business location. Under certain premises, it will promote the development of commercial areas. The medium-sized companies and their activities are to be closely networked in order to use synergy effects for Burghausen as a business location.

In addition, dealing with PFOA is also on the city's agenda in the "Science, economy and work" field of action.
