General Information

The city of Burghausen has employed a climate protection manager since January 2023. The Burghausen City Council passed a corresponding resolution in September 2022. With this decision, the city is reacting to the changes in the climate and its consequences.

The core task of the climate protection manager is to carry out an inventory and an analysis of potential with the help of a funded integrated climate protection concept, and to develop systematic measures for climate protection. The climate protection manager should take a holistic view of climate protection, start individual climate protection activities, systematically consolidate and coordinate them in a targeted manner and set optimal priorities for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The city of Burghausen intends to make energy-efficient renovations to its properties by 2035 in order to save CO2. By 2030, if possible, 100 percent of the energy required for households, industry and commerce (excluding chemical companies) should come from renewable sources, thereby saving at least 40 percent of CO2 in the electricity and heat supply.

The Burghauser climate protection concept is intended to provide for measures in the areas of heat, electricity, transport and greenhouse emissions, among other things. In order to create the climate protection concept, Burghausen's climate protection manager first determines where there is a need for action and advice. To do this, it uses, among other things, the findings and goals that Burghausen’s citizens developed as part of the city’s public participation program back in 2022. A comprehensive climate protection concept including a large number of climate protection measures for the city of Burghausen should be available by mid-2024.

Where it is already possible, the climate protection manager implements climate protection measures in cooperation with the city, business, associations and private individuals.

Interested parties can contact the climate protection manager in the town hall of the city of Burghausen. She is available there for discussions and advice.

The part-time position of the climate protection manager is limited until December 31, 2024. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety based on a decision by the German Bundestag.

National climate protection initiative

“With the National Climate Protection Initiative, the Federal Environment Ministry has been initiating and funding numerous projects since 2008 that contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Their programs and projects cover a wide range of climate protection activities: from the development of long-term strategies to specific assistance and investment support measures.

This diversity is a guarantee for good ideas. The National Climate Protection Initiative contributes to anchoring climate protection locally. Consumers benefit from it, as do companies, municipalities and educational institutions.”
