The city of Burghausen is facing major challenges in terms of climate and energy: By 2030, it wants to provide 100 percent of the energy required for households, industry and commerce (excluding chemical companies) from renewable sources and in this way save at least 40 percent of CO2. Burghausen wants to take responsibility and counteract the climate crisis with clearly defined steps and measures.

The city uses a variety of methods to implement its sustainable climate and energy goals: For example, it wants to expand municipal energy advice, develop Burghausen into a sponge city, improve lighting in the city area in terms of energy consumption and use the potential that PV systems have offer the roofs of municipal properties.

The Bayernwerk energy monitor also provides a detailed overview of energy production in Burghausen. Bayernwerk collects this data for the city of Burghausen. The city of Burghausen assumes no liability for this.

Another focus of Burghausen's sustainable climate and energy program is the supply of Burghausen residents with green electricity from Burghausen. Since April 2022, anyone who wants has been able to obtain electricity that comes directly from the city area. A participation project for Burghausen citizens in a PV system is also being planned.

As part of the creation of the climate protection concept, the Institute for Sustainable Energy Supply GmbH (INEV) was commissioned to prepare an energy and greenhouse gas balance. The present report presents the methodology, database and results of the balance sheet.

In order to provide citizens with central information about the planned wind farm in the Altötting district, there is a Bavarian Energy Atlas digital information platform. Answers to around 140 questions can be found there. The questions are continually added to and updated.

If you have questions about energy and energy saving, you can get expert information and valuable tips from the municipal energy advice service and thus improve your energy balance.

"Especially here in the ChemDelta we need a lot of electricity - for this we as a city invest in sustainable and renewable energies. Our citizens can thus obtain regionally cheap and sustainable green electricity from our company EBG.”

Florian Schneider, Mayor of Burghausen
