Bat © City of Burghausen

When dusk falls, they buzz silently through the air: bats. There are many interesting and exciting things to learn about the agile insect hunters. The flying foxes have long since ceased to be seen as blood-sucking vampires, but as lovable animals worthy of protection.

Since 2018, the Burghausen Environmental Agency has been taking part in the Germany-wide "Batnight", which the Bund Naturschutz (Bund Naturschutz) organizes every summer.

For the Burghauser Batnight, the environmental agency is organizing two bat hikes along the Salzach and along the castle, which Dr. Dorothea Friemel leads.

Together with a school class, the employees of the environmental agency are also building bat incubators as part of the environmental education program and hanging them up in the city area.

project profile

The Bund Naturschutz has been organizing the Batnight since 1996. With the event, the organization draws attention to the threat to bats. In order to get to know the unique animals better, the organizers will show on site how the flying foxes can best be observed at night and how their protection can be improved.
