General Information

In 2022, the city of Burghausen set up a staff office for old town caretakers.

With this staff office, the city wants to create a contact point for the citizens of Burghausen's old town. The old town caretaker focuses his work on the buildings, the urban space and the people who live in Burghausen's old town.

Among other things, he would like to eliminate the vacancies in the buildings in the old town with tenants from the cultural and creative industries and in this way enrich the public space in the Grüben and other parts of the old town. The plans of the Altstadtkümmerer also include the reopening of a grocery store in the historic district of Burghausen.

With the help of the staff unit, the city of Burghausen wants to connect all involved and interested people and develop ideas together. To this end, the old town caretaker intends to create a network that includes tenants, landlords, planning offices, funding agencies and many more.

Since spring 2023, the old town caretaker has moved into his office in the Grüben in the heart of the old town. In the immediate vicinity of the Burghauser Cultural Office, interested citizens, regardless of whether they are tenants, landlords, cultural workers or others, can visit it directly on site and exchange ideas or suggestions. The Altstadtkümmerer sees itself as a contact person for construction advice, for infrastructure, for the neighborhood or for similar concerns.

Anyone interested can reach the Burghauser old town caretaker in his office at Grüben 187.

The part-time position of the old town caretaker is limited to three years and is funded by the urban development grant of the Free State of Bavaria.
