The city of Burghausen has so far awarded honorary citizenship to 26 people.

As the first honorary citizen, the city appointed Dr. Joseph Hafner. He received the dignity of honorary citizen for his proven achievements as a physician, his humane behavior and his sense of charity.

Most recently, the long-serving mayor of Burghausen, Hans Steindl, received honorary citizenship in 2020. The city gave him the award for his outstanding services to the city of Burghausen as mayor from 1990 to 2020.

also dr The city of Burghausen awarded Peter-Alexander Wacker and Professor Wolfgang A. Herrmann honorary citizenship. In 2007, the city honored Peter-Alexander Wacker's services to the realignment of Wacker Chemie and the associated strengthening of the Burghausen site.

Wolfgang A. Herrmann accepted the award in 2016 for his great services to the TUM center in the Raitenhaslach monastery and his tireless efforts to promote Burghausen as a science location.
