Burghausen has a police station. It ensures public safety and order in the city. Its headquarters are in Neustadt, in the immediate vicinity of the train station.
The Burghausen police is not only responsible for the city of Burghausen, but also for the communities of Burgkirchen/Alz (without Gendorf), Feichten/Alz, Garching (only the Wald district), Haiming, Halsbach, Kirchweidach, Marktl (only the Schützing district), Mehring and Tyrlaching. Thus, the service area of the Burghausen police extends to 187 square kilometers and about 38.500 inhabitants.
The Burghausen police ensure order and security during the football games of the 1st team of SV Wacker Burghausen. They support the riot police from time to time.
