The city of Burghausen maintains a total of four town partnerships.

The town twinning association Burghausen eV actively takes care of town twinning. The association aims to breathe life into Burghausen's existing partnerships with the agglomeration of Fumeloise in France, Ptuj in Slovenia, Sulmona in Italy and Hohenstein-Ernstthal in Saxony.

Citizens' trips, mutual visits and the exchange of pupils take place regularly. Numerous events now have a permanent place in the calendars of the partner cities.
