It is awarded for exceptional research results in the field of education, research and teaching in chemistry: the Chemistry Award. The Burghausen Chemistry Prize underscores the importance of the city of Burghausen as the largest location and economic center in the Bavarian chemical triangle.

The City of Burghausen presents the Chemistry Award in cooperation with the Technical University of Munich. The award is the highlight of DICHEM - a symposium of the city of Burghauen with international and scientific standards, which is committed to chemical and industrial innovations.

The name DICHEM stands for Burghausen's "chemical diamond", which symbolizes the importance and added value of the chemical industry in the city.

The Chemistry Prize is awarded in an unspecified cycle.

The City of Burghausen and TUM last presented the Chemistry Award in 2007, 2011, 2016 and 2018.

“Chemistry is Burghausen's signature of the 20th and 21st centuries. This indescribable success story, of which the whole country is proud, began with Wacker and the Alz Canal... The science city of Burghausen always honors personalities of outstanding international stature with the international Burghausen Chemistry Award."

Wolfgang A. Herrmann, President emeritus TU Munich
