With the Salzach Valley, the city of Burghausen has an exceptional landscape conservation area. Along the river there are alluvial forests, wooded valley slopes and overhangs at the Salzach breakthroughs - i.e. places where the water has eroded the steep bank, but overhangs have remained above. In addition, the Wöhrsee basin, the steep slopes of the Burgberg and bank slopes with near-natural stockings characterize the Salzachtal conservation area.

A large part of the Salzach Valley includes areas of the city of Burghausen. Overall, the landscape protection area has a size of 1.035 hectares.

As a leisure and recreation area, the Salzach Valley offers its visitors a wide range of options: Whether hiking along the river, swimming or paddling trips - in the Burghausen section of the Salzach Valley, everyone in need of relaxation will find the right thing for themselves.
