The Burghausen Environment Agency uses simple but promising means to protect species in the city area. In recent years, city employees have built and installed various breeding facilities for birds in Burghausen: barn owl boxes, kingfisher tubes, hoopoe and sparrow boxes.

In Raitenhaslach and at Brunnenfeld, the environmental agency even had nests built for storks.

In addition, there are breeding piles for stag beetles and Aesculapian snakes, butterfly houses and bat boxes in the Burghausen urban area. The Burghausen Environment Agency also offers bees species-appropriate housing. If you wander through the city with open eyes, you will discover numerous bee hotels with their typical loopholes.

Holger Lundt, amateur ornithologist and member of the Bund Naturschutz, supports the Burghausen environmental agency in its work for the diverse protection of species.

As part of various projects such as the nature action days, the environmental agency also involves Burghausen day-care centers and schools as well as residents in protecting species in Burghausen.

"Regardless of whether a sparrow or a dormouse nests in the sparrow box, it is very easy to make a contribution to the endangered habitats of many animal species."
