The city of Burghausen has defined the following guiding principle as part of its sustainability concept for the field of action Social City and Togetherness:

"We offer a home for all people and support social and intercultural dialogue, solidarity, the inclusion of people with disabilities and civic engagement. In terms of equal opportunities, all people should be able to participate in community events and have equal opportunities, regardless of their social situation, origin, religion, nationality, skin color, age, gender or disability. People in special circumstances receive protection and support.

We support affordable housing for all groups of the population and want to remain an attractive place to live for all generations. We provide space for encounters, sport, recreation, art, culture and history and support sporting, cultural and other leisure activities. At the same time, we promote the educational network.”

The guiding principle gives rise to concrete goals and visions that Burghausen would like to implement:

"We want to make Burghausen an attractive city to live in with a high quality of life for everyone through opportunities for active leisure activities, affordable housing, and a wide range of cultural and sports activities."

The Social City and Togetherness field of action encompasses a wide variety of areas. These include:

  • Expansion of leisure activities for children and young people
  • Security for generations - family town Burghausen
  • Development of a solidary urban society
  • Housing policy oriented towards the common good (BUWOG)
  • City of culture Burghausen
  • Expand and encourage volunteering

A wide variety of facilities and institutions, including the municipal House of Families, the environmental office, the cultural office and tourism, work to achieve the goals for the Social City and Togetherness field of action.

In order to expand the range of leisure activities for children and young people, the city is building a bike and skate park on Berghamer Straße under the direction of the environmental agency. The new park is planned as a contact point for children and young people: Here you can make contact, meet, do sports together or just chill.

The plans as a family town that offers generations a sense of security are extensive: In addition to cooking courses for senior citizens, the municipal family house runs a family garbage day. As part of World Cleanup Day, all volunteers are called upon to collect rubbish. The Haus der Familie would also like to launch further campaigns and closely network the existing offers and facilities for social interaction.

The development of a solidary urban society is very lively: In addition to the expansion of fair trade certification for schools and daycare centers, places of encounter are to be cultivated in Burghausen where there is no obligation to consume. A festival in the intercultural garden directed by the Department of Social Affairs, Integration and Education is intended to bring people of different origins and descent together in 2023.

The city has set itself another ambitious goal for the development of a solidary urban society: to expand and promote voluntary work.

A housing policy geared towards the common good is also important to Burghausen. To this end, the further expansion of BUWOG's housing stock is on the agenda, as well as the development of a housing model that accommodates not just one generation, but several. The office of the city of Burghausen also analyzes the need for social space.

The Burghauser Kulturbüro is developing, among other things, a sustainable event guide for the goals of the Social City and Togetherness field of action. The numerous events in the city are Burghausen's flagship, which is why it is important to the city to also integrate the topic of sustainability in the area of events and to develop a guideline. One of many examples of how the city can do justice to the topic of sustainability in a holistic way. Another big topic of the cultural office are large-format advertising materials as part of a recycling project.
