Only a few steps are left to complete completion - the Pestalozzi School and SVE will move into the new building on April 8, 2024

“Good morning, Mr. Schneider!” the schoolchildren shouted in chorus when First Mayor Florian Schneider entered one of the classrooms on the 8st floor of the new extension to the Hans Kammerer School on the morning of April 2024, 1. The head of the city and school officer Norbert English welcomed a total of 46 children from the three classes of the Pestalozzi School and the school preparatory facility (SVE). “Even if everything looks different at the beginning and you have to get used to your new classrooms, I hope that you like it here and feel comfortable,” said the city leader.

Until recently, the Pestalozzi School shared rooms with the Hans Stethaimer School. But the basic renovation will begin there after the Whitsun holidays. There will then be enough space for open all-day care, to which every child will be entitled from the 2025/26 school year. During the construction work, the students from the Hans Stethaimer School are moving to the former Athanor Academy drama school in the castle.

Lack of space was also the reason for the expansion of the Hans Kammerer School. The number of students has risen constantly in recent years and here, too, there must be enough rooms available for open all-day care. Therefore, construction work on the extension began in April 2022. Shortly after construction began, the city council decided to add another floor due to the large influx after the outbreak of war in Ukraine. The new building is therefore five floors high. The extension cost a total of 13,6 million euros.

The extension building not only contains classrooms, but also lounges, multifunctional rooms and a cafeteria. “And you also have a really great schoolyard with a climbing frame and lots of play options. I am sure that you are doing very well here in the Neustadt,” said school representative Norbert Englisch.

The first floor, into which the Pestalozzi School has now moved, is already finished. In the rest of the building there are still a few final touches missing, such as lamps or final painting work. However, all construction work on the extension should be completed by May 1, 3. The remaining classrooms can then be used by students from the Hans Kammerer School.
