CLOUDS, clouds
Michael Jank demonstrates the connection between his photography and its realization in screen printing, lithography, and etching. He sifts through his collected image material, prints, prints, combines—searching and finding.
For Jank, the constantly changing clouds are a symbol of the world's constant transformation. What remains is change itself. In his cloud paintings, he finds a way to capture certain celestial moods.
The cloudscapes created using the screen-printing technique convey the feeling of being right in the middle of things. A dot grid layered with cloud details in shades ranging from blue-white to yellow-green, pink-red to violet, often in multiple layers.
Color overlays are also a focus in the collaboration with George Tuckel and his glacier photographs from Alaska. Here, colors are printed transparently over the photographs using an ink roller. The gradient enhances the contrasts – warm yellows and reds deliberately reference global warming.
Cloud photographs, landscapes, and travel images from Oregon—much of Jank's work on the subject of clouds will be included in the exhibition. The House of Photography will become Jank's cloud laboratory, to which everyone is cordially invited.
